Maurizio Riva

President of Riva 1929

This historical and artisanal company was founded in 1920 in Cantù, in the heart of the Brianza area. It began as a small family atelier led by Nino Romano, specialised in the manufacturing of classic furniture in solid wood. Right after World War II, Mario Riva joined the workshop, continuing his father-in-law's firm. The brothers Maurizio and Davide Riva followed in their father and grandfather's footsteps by learning the craft of woodworking and specialising in custom-built furniture.

A long-standing effort began, aimed at increasing the appreciation for natural wood objects made by hand, the signature trait of Riva 1920. For the first time, the company presented its collection at the Milan Furniture Fair in 1992 and began earning a reputation in Italy and abroad. Important collaborations with internationally famous architects followed. In 2010, the construction of the new Riva Center was concluded. The ground floor is a 1,200-square-metre showroom and the first floor hosts a wood museum with over 4,000 pieces on display including machines and tools for woodworking.
